Established in 1934, Burford Laundry has served commercial and domestic customers in this part of Oxford for more than 80 years, and is continuing to grow and to change to meet new challenges.
The building was destroyed by fire in 2014 but has been replaced with a modern, streamlined laundry that continues to serve local people as well as businesses including Oxford colleges, hotels, pubs, restaurants and bed and breakfast establishments.
The laundry prides itself on delivering a competitively priced, flexible and customer-focused service. Well-trained, highly skilled staff are able to discuss customers’ individual requirements and provide bespoke advice where necessary.
Burford laundry offers a range of additional services, including repairs and alterations and a low-cost hire service for commercial customers. It provides specialist cleaning for precious or unusual items and is continually seeking to reduce its impact on the environment.

The new building has been designed to be energy efficient and is fitted with solar PV panels that have dramatically reduced its carbon footprint. It takes water from the river and filters it for use in the laundry.
While still offering a high quality dry cleaning service, Burford Laundry is supporting the industry’s move towards wet cleaning, a more environmentally sensitive process that uses biodegradable chemicals that are much less harmful and are kinder on the skin as well as being better suited to cleaning delicate fabrics.
The new building has been equipped with modern, energy efficient equipment and takes advantage of automated processes to ensure it uses as little energy as possible.
While the new building and modern equipment have given Burford Laundry a head start in protecting the environment, the team continues to look for additional efficiencies as it seeks to minimise its impact on the earth’s resources.
Burford Laundry has been part of the fabric of Burford for more than 80 years, but it is determined not to take that for granted. The team is continually looking to improve its services, serve new customers and ensure the business is still working hard to deliver a quality, customer-focused service to local people and businesses in another 80 years.
